Methods
Normal
The “intended” way of brewing an Aeropress (whatever that’s supposed to mean)
- Prepare the vessel
- Set up a scale
- Put your intended coffee vessel, suitable for pressing onto, on the scale
- Prepare the Aeropress
- Put a paper filter into the Aeropress’s Filter cap
- Screw on the cap
- Prepare your grounds
- Weigh out your coffee beans
- Spritz them with a bit of water / stir with a lightly wet spoon (to reduce static)
- Grind
- Put the Aeropress onto the vessel
- Put your grounds into the Aeropress
- Shake lightly to level the bed
- Tare the scale
- Start the timer
- Optional: Bloom
- Poor the amount of water intended for blooming into the Aeropress
- Optional: Stir lightly
- Wait until the intended blooming timeframe has passed, then proceed
- Pour in water until the desired water amount is reached
- Optional: Stir lightly
- Quickly put the plunger on, to create a vacuum to stop the dripping
- Wait for the specified amount of time
- Optional: Swirl the container one time and wait 15-30s for the grounds to settle
- Gently push the plunger down, until it won’t go further
- Retract the plunger a tiny bit to prevent dripping
- Turn the Aeropress around and set it aside
- Enjoy
Inverted
Brew without bypass. The hip way to brew, but subjectively better.
- Set up a scale
- Put your intended coffee vessel, suitable for pressing onto, aside
- Prepare the Aeropress
- Put the plunger into the Aeropress, until it barely sits inside. WARNING: If it’s not securely inside, you might splurge hot water everywhere!
- Put a paper filter into the Aeropress’s Filter cap, but don’t screw it on yet
- Prepare your grounds
- Weigh out your coffee beans
- Spritz them with a bit of water / stir with a lightly wet spoon (to reduce static)
- Grind
- Put the Aeropress upside down onto the scale so that the plunger is at the bottom
- Put your grounds into the Aeropress
- Shake lightly to level the bed
- Tare the scale
- Start the timer
- Optional: Bloom
- Poor the amount of water intended for blooming into the Aeropress
- Optional: Stir lightly
- Wait until the intended blooming timeframe has passed, then proceed
- Pour in water until the desired water amount is reached
- Stir lightly
- Take the Aeropress of the scale
- Wait for the specified amount of time
- Push the plunger further in, so the water surface is almost at the edge of the opening
- Screw the filter cap on
- In one swift motion, turn the Aeropress around and onto your vessel, while keeping a hand on the plunger, to make sure it doesn’t go anywhere
- Optional: Swirl the container one time and wait 15-30s for the grounds to settle
- Gently push the plunger down, until it won’t go further
- Retract the plunger a tiny bit to prevent dripping
- Turn the Aeropress around and set it aside
- Enjoy
