Methods

Normal

The “intended” way of brewing an Aeropress (whatever that’s supposed to mean)

  1. Prepare the vessel
    1. Set up a scale
    2. Put your intended coffee vessel, suitable for pressing onto, on the scale
  2. Prepare the Aeropress
    1. Put a paper filter into the Aeropress’s Filter cap
    2. Screw on the cap
  3. Prepare your grounds
    1. Weigh out your coffee beans
    2. Spritz them with a bit of water / stir with a lightly wet spoon (to reduce static)
    3. Grind
  4. Put the Aeropress onto the vessel
  5. Put your grounds into the Aeropress
  6. Shake lightly to level the bed
  7. Tare the scale
  8. Start the timer
  9. Optional: Bloom
    1. Poor the amount of water intended for blooming into the Aeropress
    2. Optional: Stir lightly
    3. Wait until the intended blooming timeframe has passed, then proceed
  10. Pour in water until the desired water amount is reached
  11. Optional: Stir lightly
  12. Quickly put the plunger on, to create a vacuum to stop the dripping
  13. Wait for the specified amount of time
  14. Optional: Swirl the container one time and wait 15-30s for the grounds to settle
  15. Gently push the plunger down, until it won’t go further
  16. Retract the plunger a tiny bit to prevent dripping
  17. Turn the Aeropress around and set it aside
  18. Enjoy

Inverted

Brew without bypass. The hip way to brew, but subjectively better.

  1. Set up a scale
  2. Put your intended coffee vessel, suitable for pressing onto, aside
  3. Prepare the Aeropress
    1. Put the plunger into the Aeropress, until it barely sits inside. WARNING: If it’s not securely inside, you might splurge hot water everywhere!
    2. Put a paper filter into the Aeropress’s Filter cap, but don’t screw it on yet
  4. Prepare your grounds
    1. Weigh out your coffee beans
    2. Spritz them with a bit of water / stir with a lightly wet spoon (to reduce static)
    3. Grind
  5. Put the Aeropress upside down onto the scale so that the plunger is at the bottom
  6. Put your grounds into the Aeropress
  7. Shake lightly to level the bed
  8. Tare the scale
  9. Start the timer
  10. Optional: Bloom
    1. Poor the amount of water intended for blooming into the Aeropress
    2. Optional: Stir lightly
    3. Wait until the intended blooming timeframe has passed, then proceed
  11. Pour in water until the desired water amount is reached
  12. Stir lightly
  13. Take the Aeropress of the scale
  14. Wait for the specified amount of time
  15. Push the plunger further in, so the water surface is almost at the edge of the opening
  16. Screw the filter cap on
  17. In one swift motion, turn the Aeropress around and onto your vessel, while keeping a hand on the plunger, to make sure it doesn’t go anywhere
  18. Optional: Swirl the container one time and wait 15-30s for the grounds to settle
  19. Gently push the plunger down, until it won’t go further
  20. Retract the plunger a tiny bit to prevent dripping
  21. Turn the Aeropress around and set it aside
  22. Enjoy
